Here’s what I think:
This word, it’s like signing a contract (in a way).
This is because when you sign a contract, it’s like A) announcing that whatever you are signing is true, B) your are committing yourself to the said true statement, and C) if your break it, it’s practically (or in the contract’s case is) illegal. When you announce that you have a crush on someone, you don’t say it lightly and without much self-reflection (at least I don’t). When you say it, other people assume what your saying is true and without falseness, and that your unlikely to “fall out of crush” anytime soon.
It’s also a Double entendre in that to one person it can mean one thing, and to another, it can mean something else entirely. In this way it can act as an innuendo as well. [p.s. the little dot about the line that makes up the letter i is called a tittle.)
Anyways, I personally don’t like the word crush. It’s doesn’t sound very good to my ears. By this I mean, it’s fine to say you’re crushing ice and all that, but to say you have a “crush” on someone doesn’t sound ‘good’ to me. Yeah, saying, “I ‘like’ so and so” is fine, but not saying, ”I have a ‘crush’ on so and so,” well I just don’t like it. Plus people can tease you with the word easily. I don’t like words that I’m teased with. “You liikkkkee _________” is not nearly as bad as “You have a crrruuuuuuuuuussshhhhh” I that way that people do. Can you picture it? The face they make when they spit the word at you? It just “Grinds My Gears” as Peter (from Family Guy) would say.
So obviously this word has been on my mind a lot recently. Ever since stupid Erin said it. I feel like throttling her for what she did, lol. I mean yeah it was hilarious and all (I’m not going to be specific hear because that gives away too much) but ARGH I WILL CUT YOU ERIN, lol. So anyways those are my thoughts on that word.
